Background Information

I’m a Japanese-American who grew up in Kailua, Hawaii. My family has a mixed history of both FOB Japanese and Nikkei plantation workers. I’m sure the history behind it would be interesting, but since most of my older relatives passed away before I could ask, I don’t really know much about my lineage.

I have a bachelors degree in English from the University of Hawaii. I used to play the clarinet and sax, and I worked as an editor and freelance writer for various publications, both on and off campus. I also held a variety of part-time jobs, none of which lasted long, and which include: working at three different bookstores, being a tutor for ADD kids, a waitress at a Christian cafe, and a campus tour guide.

I used to code websites entirely from scratch, using just Notepad and a copy of Paint Shop Pro. Nowadays I rely entirely on templates because I’m lazy, have a full-time job to attend to, and don’t get paid to sit around and figure out Web 2.0 coding.

I’m currently working for a major eikaiwa in Niigata, Japan. I watch a lot more TV now than I did back in the States, and when I have a chance, I go traveling with friends. I enjoy taking pictures, although I must admit my pictures are of extremely amateurish quality.
